ANIMATION
Project Overview
Veneno is a CGI concept trailer developed by Hype Entertainment for Outlook Enterprises, expanding the action-fantasy universe of Kulipari into a completely new environment: the Amazon rainforest.
Conceived as a spin-off of the world introduced in Kulipari: An Army of Frogs, the project offered an opportunity to take the mythology of the poisonous frog warriors into a distinctly South American setting, combining fantasy, action and the extraordinary biodiversity of the Amazon.
Hype was involved from the earliest creative stages of the trailer, developing the script, concept art, 3D assets, rigging, animation and compositing, taking the project from initial ideas to the final cinematic piece.

Expanding the Kulipari Universe
The world of Kulipari originated in Trevor Pryce’s An Army of Frogs books and later expanded into an animated series. Its mythology revolves around an elite group of frogs whose natural poison gives them extraordinary abilities, transforming the characteristics of real amphibians into the foundation for a fantasy action universe. Pryce’s first An Army of Frogs novel was published in 2013, and the property later expanded into animation and other media.
In 2019, Pryce announced Veneno as one of several projects intended to broaden that universe beyond the original story. Unlike the existing adventures, Veneno would take place in the Amazon, opening the mythology to new ecosystems, characters and visual possibilities.

An Amazonian Chapter
The Amazon setting was particularly significant to the concept. At its San Diego Comic-Con announcement, Veneno was described as a project to be created by a Brazilian animation studio, with Portuguese and Spanish envisioned as its primary languages and English subtitles for international audiences.
For Hype, this created an opportunity to interpret a global fantasy property through a Brazilian creative perspective. The rainforest offered a dramatically different visual language from the established Kulipari world: dense vegetation, extreme scale, vivid colors, unfamiliar creatures and a constant tension between beauty and danger.

Creative Development and Script
Hype’s involvement began before the first 3D asset was created. The studio was responsible for the script and creative development of the trailer, establishing how the new setting, characters and action could be introduced within a short cinematic format.
The challenge was to communicate the promise of a much larger universe in only a few minutes. The trailer therefore needed to function simultaneously as storytelling, worldbuilding and a proof of concept — introducing the tone of Veneno, creating intrigue around its characters and demonstrating how the Kulipari mythology could evolve in an Amazonian setting.

Concept Art and Worldbuilding
Concept art played a central role in defining the identity of Veneno. The team explored how an established fantasy franchise could be reinterpreted through the shapes, atmosphere and biodiversity associated with the Amazon rainforest.
Characters, environments, vegetation and visual motifs were developed together so that the world would feel cohesive rather than assembled from isolated elements. The intention was not to create a realistic documentary representation of the rainforest, but a stylized fantasy world grounded in its extraordinary natural character.
This stage became the bridge between the original Kulipari universe and the cinematic 3D language developed specifically for the trailer.

Look Development and Compositing
The final look brought together the characters and the Amazon-inspired environments into a unified cinematic image. Materials, lighting, atmosphere and compositing were used to reinforce depth and scale, transforming the initial artwork into a richer 3D world.
Compositing became the final layer of the process, integrating characters, environments, effects and atmospheric elements while controlling focus, contrast and visual hierarchy. The objective throughout was to give the trailer the visual ambition of a larger animated production rather than treating it merely as a development test.

Working with Outlook Enterprises
Veneno was developed for Outlook Enterprises, the animation and media company founded by former NFL player and Kulipari creator Trevor Pryce. Today operating as Outlook/OVFX in Baltimore, the studio develops and produces original properties across animation, series, games and consumer products, with Kulipari remaining one of its flagship universes.
The collaboration gave Hype the opportunity to participate creatively in the expansion of an established international IP rather than simply execute finished designs. From writing and concept development through final animation, the project allowed the studio to contribute directly to defining what this new corner of the Kulipari universe could become.
Hype’s Role
For Veneno, Hype Entertainment was responsible for the complete creative and production development of the CGI trailer, including script, concept art, 3D modeling, rigging, animation and compositing.
This end-to-end involvement allowed the studio to shape the project consistently from the first narrative ideas to the final image. Hype helped define the Amazonian interpretation of the property, designed its visual world, translated that world into 3D and ultimately transformed it into a cinematic proof of concept for Outlook Enterprises.
For Hype, Veneno was also an early example of a type of collaboration that would become increasingly important to the studio: working with international IP owners not only as an animation vendor, but as a creative partner capable of developing story, design and production together.
