ANIMATION

General Concept

Guitar & Drum is a preschool animated series about friendship, diversity, self-esteem and respect for others, told through music, humor and everyday adventures. Premiered in 2019, the series follows two best friends — Guitar and Drum — as they play, dance and make music together in a small town inhabited by musical instruments and one very special Pineapple.

Created for boys and girls aged 3 to 6, the show uses catchy songs, simple stories and funny situations to introduce young audiences to the value of diversity. Although Guitar and Drum are very different, they are the best of friends: Guitar is outgoing, confident and talkative, while Drum is calm, observant and thoughtful. Their friendship becomes the emotional center of the series, showing children how different personalities can complement one another and create something beautiful together.

A Musical World About Diversity

At the heart of Guitar & Drum is a simple and powerful metaphor: every instrument has its own sound, but together they can create a beautiful melody. This idea shapes the entire universe of the series, where characters with different personalities, abilities, tastes and cultural backgrounds learn how to understand one another.

The show approaches diversity through everyday preschool situations, making big emotional themes feel close, fun and easy to understand. Through stories about empathy, self-esteem, friendship, teamwork and respect, Guitar & Drum encourages children to see their own differences — and the differences of others — as something valuable.

A Latin American Co-Production

Guitar & Drum is a Latin American co-production between Punkrobot Animation Studio in Chile and Hype Animation Studio in Brazil. The first season premiered in 2019 as a preschool series with 52 episodes of 5 minutes, combining entertainment, music and meaningful themes for early childhood.

The project also marked an important creative milestone for Antonia Herrera and María Elisa Soto-Aguilar, as their first directed series. Their vision helped shape a show that is playful, melodic and emotionally generous, using the world of musical instruments to talk about diversity, self-esteem and respect in a way that feels natural for preschool children.

From Local Sensibility to International Reach

The original first season of Guitar & Drum was produced as a 52 x 5-minute preschool series and premiered on Disney Junior / Disney Channels Latin America. The series later secured worldwide distribution through 9 Story Distribution International, expanding its potential reach beyond Latin America.

The show’s international appeal comes from the clarity of its concept: a musical world where difference becomes harmony. Its stories are culturally grounded but emotionally universal, making the series accessible to children and families across different countries and languages.

Visual and Creative Approach

The visual approach of Guitar & Drum is bright, colorful and simple enough for preschool audiences, while still full of personality and charm. The world is built around musical shapes, playful silhouettes and characters whose designs reflect their sounds, temperaments and emotional roles in the group.

Because the cast is made up of instruments — and even a very special pineapple — the design language allowed the creative team to explore a wide range of forms and personalities. Each character needed to be immediately readable, visually distinct and expressive enough to carry both comedy and emotional beats.

Hype’s Role

As co-producer of Guitar & Drum, Hype Animation Studio Brazil helped bring the series to life alongside Punkrobot Animation Studio, contributing to a project that combined entertainment, music and meaningful preschool storytelling. The collaboration connected Brazilian and Chilean creative talent around a shared belief in animation as a tool for empathy, inclusion and emotional development.

For Hype, the project became an important milestone in international co-production. Working with Punkrobot, the studio helped shape a joyful musical universe where every character has a unique sound, every difference has value, and every episode reinforces the same central idea: when different voices come together, they can create something beautiful.
